Why you should stand on one leg

​Our balance is far worse than it used to be. Where once we’d be spending much of the day moving about, many of us now sit staring at computer screens. This more sedentary lifestyle affects our balance skills and comes at a cost. The biggest cause of accidental deaths worldwide, after car crashes, are falls – which are a failure of balance. The good news is there are things you can do to improve it.


​Practicing body balances strengthens and refines your special sense of equilibrium - your ability to prevent yourself from falling when you stumble.

​​This skill becomes more and more important as we age, when a fall can be traumatic and injurious.
​​As you practice balancing, you develop your understanding of how the respective weights of your body can be held in both helpful and unhelpful ways. You learn how to adjust unhelpful holding patterns, that often stress key joints leading to chronic discomfort, aches & pains.
​​​Besides helping you to prevent chronic pain, and reduce your risk from falls, negotiating your balance is a joyful multi~sensory experience. ​As your balance improves, you feel a real sense of progress and pride. ​If you like the sound of this, the course should be a nice fit for you!

What you'll need

For this course, you just need to be able to sit down on and get up from the floor. You can follow the course on a computer, a laptop, an ipad or a smartphone. And access your classes anywhere with an internet connection.

Fantastic small yoga practice. Great beginners class so you can start from scratch with regular classes to follow on. Fran is a fabulous teacher and you can put in as much (or as little) effort as you want in each class - there is no pressure or competition. Highly recommended to both new and experienced yogis x

Totally agree with Zoe's description of Fran's classes. Also, ...
I could only attend Fran's classes for a while as I moved counties - which is such a shame. Fran has so much knowledge and her classes are very welcoming and nurturing. I was very impressed with the way Fran taught a range of abilities seamlessly in the same class - each of us being able to practice our own yoga according to our own abilities. Looking now at her online classes, I can see that these are just as wonderful and accessible for all. Hopefully I shall move back one day and be able to practice with Lotus Leaf Yoga again....

​"I really like the yoga itself but Fran was brilliant. Her instructions were clear and she demonstrated the poses leaving me in no doubt how to do them. I liked how she described the process we were aiming for of body awareness and she said at anytime a pose hurts or doesn't feel right for you don't do it.
